NYFW | TOM FORD

"He just got even more F*cking Fabulous"

If you hadn’t heard, this year, Tom Ford just got even more Fucking Fabulous, so said the new fragrance which rightfully accompanied each invitation to the runway at New York Fashion Week, to which Kim Kardashian West, Cindy Crawford & Karlie Kloss gracefully accepted. Ford describes the scent as explicit, decadent and intoxicating. As much can be said for the show, a sleek recapturing of 90’s glamour meets Hollywood glitz.

Ford’s been busy - directing and producing another movie, so there were no holds barred when it came to all that glitter, there’s a whole year’s worth to catch up on! Despite Ford being a veteran of the fashion industry, former creative director for both Yves Saint Laurent and the reinvention of Gucci at just 56, the Tom Ford label itself is made up of Menswear, Beauty and only 30% dedicated to women’s fashion - so how has it become such royalty of the industry? We think it’s simply the utter luxe of each and every look, everything expensive, unafraid and maybe a little aloof. Ford’s twinkly eyes and southern charm may have something to do with it as well... but who’s judging?

The signature of Tom Ford, the ‘recognisable from across the room’ suit is sharp and perfectly formed. Every man’s dream soon turned to every woman’s dream, and so the collection for SS18 was found.

Expertly cut signature suits met feminine waistlines and shimmering textures as broad shoulders and pointed lapels confidently walked down the runway from lavish velvet to glistening satin. Teamed with low-slung wide-leg pants and draped over plunged sparkling slouch sweaters, electric blue and shocking pink created bold, unapologetic colour against a backdrop of darkness in the city that never sleeps. All-over embellishment upon mini polo neck dresses, ruched floor-length gowns reflecting light within their transparency and hot pink pointed heels made up of frayed silk threads are notable details for next season's glam.

Beauty was left understated. Soft textured hair in pixie crops by Olando Pita suited Gigi and Kendall beautifully, whilst heavy liner on bare faces mimicked a wet glittery velvet adding a subtle sultriness to each look. The collection was nothing short of Ford’s sharp sex appeal 'evoking the private exchanges and insider moments where fantasies come true’. Class at the ultimate sophistication with a dusting of naughtiness… fucking fabulous.
